FVL Christmas Concert to go online!
The FVL Sacred Christmas Concert has been a tradition for many years. This year’s event will be going online because of COVID issues. The plan is to have all the choirs involved in creating a video Christmas Concert. It will go live on December 20 (the same as the original live concert date). Go to fvlhs.org/news for the link and around-school updates.
Congratulations to our 2020 Homecoming Queen, Taylor Radley. She was “escorted “ by Addison Fett who could not attend because of COVID protocols. His proxy was Zach Pearson.
Faculty & Staff News
Mrs. Jenny Retzlaff (pictured) is now serving in a part-time role as the school’s Curriculum Coordinator. Her passion for serving students and her fellow teachers will be a blessing for years to come in this position. She continues to teach Physics as well. Calls were placed in October for an Admissions Director and for a Communications Director. The admissions role would replace Mr. Ben Priebe who accepted a call to Arizona Lutheran Academy. FVL grad Mr. Joe Blum was called to fill this role. The Communications Director was filled from within when Mr. Matthew Foxen accepted the call to replace Mr. Dave Payne who is retiring in June 2021.
Special Needs Program
New this year is FVL’s entry in the Special Needs Services Program (SNSP) offered through the Wisconsin Dept. of Education. This voucher program allows FVL to serve more students than ever who struggle with learning issues. Eighteen qualified for the program this year. Mrs. Sarah Zuberbier leads this program with teaching help from Mrs. Rachel Lemke and Mrs. Karie Mindock.
FVL Theatre is scheduled to present Disney’s Beauty and the Beast in March. It remains to be seen if that will be a possibility with the current pandemic situation. Watch the FVL website for the latest updates.
Sports Fields Update
Generous donors and hard work have made a difference in FVL’s athletic fields. Soccer field drainage issues have been fixed, and a new concrete walkway to the bleachers has been installed. Coming next spring is a new storage/press box for the soccer field. The all-weather track has been resurfaced to be ready for spring. Softball dugouts were completed, and the sodding of the baseball infield plus diamond drainage are being completed this fall. FVL and our coaches and athletes are grateful for the gifts and time given to these major projects!
Due to COVID, the FVL Chapter of the National Honor Society will be holding its 40th annual induction ceremony in December this year. Normally this occurs in early October.
National Merit Commended Students
Rachel Vogel and Cameron Baye were named commended students in the National Merit Scholarship competition.
Fall Sports Highlights
The biggest highlight of the fall season might be that the season was able to be held. Tennis, cross country, and golf started in August, but football, volleyball, and soccer had to wait till September. Fans were limited for all events.
The Foxes football team enjoyed a big win at Homecoming, topping Marinette 44-7. They also upset top-ranked Freedom. Girls golf made it to sectional play. In girls tennis, sophomore No. 1 singles player Olivia Pethan advanced to state. In cross country, both teams finished high in conference—girls 2nd and boys 3rd. Luke Donart qualified to run the state meet. Girls volleyball sprinted to an 11-0 season start. They won the regional championship for the second year in a row and fell in the sectional final to Sauk Prairie in four close sets. The boys soccer team had to cancel 7 games due to quarantine, but defeated Xavier in the regional opener 4-2. They lost to Seymour 3-1 in the regional championship.
