Welcome to the New Faculty & Staff

Mrs. Rachel Lemke

serves as FVL’s newest Special Education teacher. This position was made possible by additional funding FVL receives through participation in the Wisconsin Special Needs Scholarship Program (SNSP). Originally from Morton Grove, IL, she graduated from Martin Luther College (MLC) in 2016, after which she taught at Luther Preparatory School and St. John’s Lutheran School in Montello, WI. Mrs. Lemke married FVL science teacher Ryan Lemke this past summer. “The Holy Spirit was definitely at work in this call,” she said. “I have always had a passion for tutoring, working one-on-one with students, and working in small groups.”

Miss Gabrielle Steidl

serves in FVL’s Spanish and English departments, teaching Spanish and Language Arts. She is also assisting in the FVL Theatre program. A native of New Berlin, WI, Miss Steidl graduated from MLC in 2020 with a K-12 license in Spanish instruction. She participated in three study abroad summers to strengthen her language skills and accelerate the completion of her degree. She enjoyed her experience of being able to teach at Cruz de Cristo (Cross of Christ) in Mahahual, Mexico. “I love languages, and I am so excited to serve as an English and Spanish teacher!”

Mrs. Elisabeth Wagner

was called to serve as the FVL Schools Band Director. Mrs. Wagner spent much of her childhood in Neenah, WI where her father was a teacher at Trinity-Neenah. In 1996, she graduated from FVL, and in 2000, she earned her degree in music from Lawrence University. Mrs. Wagner has served in a variety of capacities at Arizona Lutheran Academy, Wisconsin Lutheran High School, and St. Paul Lutheran School in Columbus, OH. She and her husband Tim (pastor at Riverview-Appleton) have five children: Micaiah, Sarah, Anna, Silas, and Lydia. “Music is an important part of my life,” she said. “I’m excited to have the opportunity to work within the program that gave me a great foundation when I was younger.”

Mr. Jay Wendland

is FVL’s new Mission Advancement Director. He also is the head varsity boys basketball coach. Mr. Wendland is an Appleton native and attended FVL until his family moved to New Ulm, MN after his sophomore year. “Having grown up in the area, FVL has always been near and dear to me,” said Mr. Wendland. After graduating from MLC in 2004, Mr. Wendland served as principal and teacher at Immanuel Lutheran School in Salem, OR and as Middle School Principal and Director of Mission Advancement at St. Croix Lutheran Academy. He and his wife, Heidi, have three children: Stella, Carys, and Micah.
