Thank You,
Veterans

In celebration of Veterans Day, local vets and their guests were invited to campus on Friday, November 10. The morning began at 8:30 AM with breakfast in Commons, served by Student Council.

Following breakfast and time for socializing, guests were invited to a special worship service and presentation in the chapel. After a brief welcome message from Student Council President, Nathan Stafford, Pastor Schaser delivered a devotion on Ephesians 4:22 & 24, which reflected on uniforms. Pastor Schaser’s message drew a parallel between how a service person’s uniform indicates how he or she serves, while a Christian’s “New Self,” the righteous robes that have been given through Christ’s redeeming sacrifice, cover over our sinful flesh.

Our special presenter for this year’s celebration was Sergeant Sam Floyd, USMC (Ret.), who spoke of his deployment to Afghanistan in 2003 and the mental health issues he has battled ever since returning. In 2017, SGT Floyd started Operation Coffee, his mission to begin conversations about mental heath with veterans, who may have difficulty seeking help on their own.

The FVL band, under the direction of Mr. James Neujahr, beautified the service with several songs including a special tribute to all branches of the military.
