As students at Fox Valley Lutheran High School, Aaron Dolan and Eric Schroeder (Class of 1999) were shaped by the same chapel messages, Bible classes, service opportunities, and tight-knit Christian community that formed the foundation of their faith during their most formative years. Those influences did not fade after graduation. Instead, the spiritual grounding and friendships they built at FVL continued to grow, eventually leading them back to one another decades later—this time with the goal of encouraging others in their walk with Christ.
Their shared journey has now resulted in a new devotional book, He Is the Christ, published by Northwestern Publishing House (NPH). The book contains more than 100 short devotions drawn from the Gospels of Matthew and Mark. Dolan and Schroeder were approached by NPH to add a volume to their new People’s Bible series. After spending about a year-and-a-half writing, the devotional was ready for the editorial process in the fall of 2022, and was finally published in October 2025.
Dolan and Schroeder exemplify how spiritual, academic, and cocurricular gifts can grow into lives of meaningful service. As students, they distinguished themselves as the top two scholars of their graduating class. Their academic commitment earned them multiple scholarship offers, yet their talents extended well beyond the classroom. Both were standout multi-sport athletes and were known for their work ethic, competitiveness, and leadership on the field and court.
With a rare blend of intellectual ability, athletic discipline, and most importantly —Christ-centered humility, Dolan and Schroeder had countless paths open to them. Yet both chose gospel ministry, dedicating their lives to sharing Jesus, shepherding God’s people, and serving Christ’s Church.
Today, Dolan is a professor of theology at Martin Luther College, while Schroeder serves as pastor at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wauwatosa. They continue to embody the same qualities that made them stand out as teenagers: compassion, humility, a heart for others, and a desire to serve their Savior.
