From clutch wins to championship seasons, Foxes basketball has delivered unforgettable moments. Enjoy this look back at our varsity teams through the years.
Boys basketball began in 1954-55 with Gerhard Kaniess as Head Coach.
Boys were Badger Lutheran Conference Champs.
Boys were Badger Lutheran Conference Champs this year as well as in 1963-1964.
In their 1965-66 debut in the Midwest Prep Conference, Milwaukee sportswriters predicted FVL would finish last. Coach Kaniess proved them wrong, leading the Foxes to a 2nd-place finish.
1973-74 was the first year FVL had an official girls basketball team. Under the leadership of head coach Pat Schabo, the A and B teams practiced, honed skills, and did well!
Under Coach Kaniess, the boys won the Region 4 Championship and made their first trip to State in 1975-76. Though they fell short of the title, they proudly returned with the State Sportsmanship Award.
The boys won the Region 4 championship and returned to State in 1979-80 under Coach Steve Gauger.
Coach Jane Polley helped the varsity girls develop skills and strategies, and learn plays.
The 1990-91 season brought FVL’s first State appearance for the girls. With Coach Len Paulowski at the helm, the excitement was so high that school was called off for two days so fans could support the Foxes.
In 1994-95, the boys, led by Coach Gauger, captured the Fox Valley Christian Conference title.
Coach Wenzel led the girls back to State in 1994-95 and 1995-1996.
In 1997-98, the varsity girls won the Fox Valley Christian Conference championship and were runners-up at the State competition, falling to Pius.
In 1998-1999, the girls won the Valley Independent Conference championship and went to State.
FVL’s 1999–2000 girls team made history as the school’s first undefeated varsity squad, capturing the Valley 8 Conference crown and advancing to State.
In the dramatic first varsity home game played in the Meade Street gym (boys or girls), the FVL girls rallied past rival Xavier in the final 13.2 seconds. A packed house witnessed the beginning of a season that ended with the Valley 8 Conference title.
Under Coach John Kolander, the boys defeated Xavier for the 2001-02 regional title before falling to Seymour in sectional play at the Brown County Arena.
In the 2002-03 season, the girls won another Valley 8 Conference title under Coach Wenzel, and went to the Kohl Center in Madison where they were the runners-up at State.
Coach Matt Koepsell led the varsity boys to back-to-back Valley 8 Conference wins in 2003-04 and 2004-05.
Coach Wenzel led the girls to win the Valley 8 Conference championship in 2003-04, 2004-05, and 2006-07.
The 2011-12 boys varsity team were regional champs under the leadership of Coach Koepsell.
Under Coach Wenzel, the varsity girls claimed Eastern Valley Conference titles from 2011-12 through 2013-14. They also also won the Regional Championship in 2012-13 and 2013-14.
Coach Jay Wendland led the boys varsity team to a three-peat, winning the North Eastern Conference (NEC) championship in 2021-22, 2022-23, and 2023-24.
